The Man Who Cried Ebola – What NOT To Joke About When Traveling By Plane

Don’t bring liquids, don’t make comments about bombs and don’t joke about having traveled to Africa after you sneeze. Particularly on a plane packed with paranoid people.

A man traveling from Philadelphia to the Dominican Republic learned this the hard way.

An unidentified passenger on a flight from Philadelphia to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic thought it would be funny to shout out “I have Ebola, you are all screwed,” after sneezing. Unlike the boy who cried wolf, everyone believed his claims. Upon landing, emergency medical teams in protective suits boarded the plane and escorted the man off. In a YouTube video filmed aboard the plane, a flight attendant announces: “I need your attention, OK? It’s going to look worse than it is, OK? I really want you to remember, from the depth of my being, I’ve done this for 36 years; I think the man that has said this is an idiot.”

Walter Zemialkowski, director of operations at the airport, said the aircraft had been isolated before being boarded as a precaution. The unnamed passenger was taken to a medical area for a checkup.

“He will be returned to the United States, where he will be submitted to another rigorous check,“ Zemialkowski added.

The passenger tested negative for Ebola and his passport did not show that he had been to Africa. I’m sure he’ll have plenty of time to think about how unfunny his actions were as he enjoys the no-fly list for the foreseeable future.
