Somewhere between what seemed like the entire universe waxing lyrical about the countless benefits of Kale, and health nuts singing praises to blueberries and their endless wonders (which, interestingly enough, have never been proven to be all that nutrient dense FYI…) attitudes surrounding the delicious and magical fruit known as the avocado have undergone somewhat of a renaissance as of late. Not that there was ever a disdain for avocados, just an indifference. A sort of blase “What, avocado? That’s just for guacamole, right?” kind of thing.
Now there seems to be a new appreciation for the food all over the the world wide web and it is glorious.Although most internet trends can get obnoxious fast, no matter what the topic, it seem like we’ll never tire of avocado. Perhaps I’m biased (I did refer to it as delicious and magical after all!) but there’s not a lot of foods that you can say are a combination of delicious and good for you, while also being versatile as heck.
Not entirely sold yet? Here’s a list of fun facts about everyone’s favorite “alligator pear” (that’s a thing people call them too, apparently) that will be sure to change your mind.
I already mentioned this but it does bear repeating that avocados are just plain good for you, pure and simple. In single serving (3.5 ounces) of avocado you’re provided with a wealth of nutrients such as Vitamin K, Folate, Vitamin C, B5, B6, E, magnesium and many, many more. They’re also low-carb and contain more protein and healthy fats than you could shake a stick at.
Bonus fun fact: eating carotenoid dense foods help you absorb these nutrients more from other foods.
