Actress SARAH JESSICA PARKER has landed a new role as honorary chair of the American Library Association’s Book Club Central.
The Sex and the City star will be helping to recommend titles to fellow book lovers throughout the year to promote reading across the U.S.
In a statement to The Associated Press, Parker shares, “From an early age, books were my constant companions and my local library a place I could find a new friend on every shelf.
“I’m thrilled to help champion original voices for dedicated readers as well as for a new generation, supporting libraries in what they do best.”
The Book Club Central group will officially launch in June (17), during the ALA’s annual conference in Chicago, Illinois.
Parker is an ideal choice as honorary chair after recently unveiling her own publishing imprint with Penguin Random House.
She also served on a presidential arts and humanities committee during President Barack Obama’s time in office, which came to an end last month (Jan17).
The mother of three isn’t the only celebrity to head up a book club – fellow actresses Reese Witherspoon and Emma Watson both provide literary recommendations to fans online, while earlier this month (Feb17), reality TV star Kim Kardashian and her model pal Chrissy Teigen revealed they had started their own reading group with friends and family.
