Miss Universe Selfie Causes International Controversy

It was all fun, games and selfies at the Miss Universe Pageant until Miss Lebanon, Saly Greige and Miss Israel, Doron Matalon took a selfie with two other women.

After Matalon posted the picture to her Instagram, the Lebanese television station Al Jadeed remarked that since one of the competitor’s hobbies is reading, she should have looked up on the fact Lebanon and Israel are enemies.

The two had different reactions to the photo. Greige posted on her Facebook, explaining how she tried to avoid communicating with Miss Israel since the competition had started but when she “was having a photo with Miss Japan, Miss Slovenia and myself; suddenly Miss Israel jumped in, took a selfie, and put it on her social media.” So basically she photo bombed her and she was not happy about it.

Matalon didn’t see it that way nor felt it necessary to apologize. She said the situation “doesn’t surprise me, but it still makes me sad. Too bad you can not put the hostility out of the game, only for three weeks of an experience of a lifetime that we can meet girls from around the world and also from the neighboring country.”

So apparently we can’t just all get along, not even for a selfie.
