Finishing a look is just a few short minutes away. Summertime is a great time to get that hair out of your face and pull it back into some cute and simple styles that will add a lot of “pop” without adding a lot of prep!
Take your pony to the next level by giving it a bit of volume. With unwashed hair, run your fingers through it a few times to puff up the hair near your scalp. Pull all of your hair back into a pony, as normal, then take a thin strip of hair and wrap it around the hair tie to conceal it. Secure this strip with a bobby pin, finish with hairspray, and you’re good to go!
Take a small section of hair from the front of your head closest to the hairline (mid to long bangs will work really well for this!). Using a fine-toothed comb, tease this section, then twist it back once and secure with two bobby pins in an “x” shape. You can wear your hair just like this, or pull the rest of your hair into a pony or messy bun depending on your mood and outfit!
Take a small section of hair from behind your left ear and work it into a braid. Allowing the rest of your hair to lay flat, pull this braid up and over your hair and pin it to sit behind your right ear. The larger the section you begin with, the thicker your braid will be in the finished style.
Gather pieces of hair from the front of your head on both sides and pull them back into a ponytail at the center of your head. Secure the ponytail with a hair tie. Once secured, slide the hair tie down a little bit then twist the pony in on itself, feeding the end of your hair into the top of the loop near where the hair tie sits, then pulling it flat to your head once more. Finish with a cute barrette or flower.
Worn in pigtails or one thick rope, the fishtail is a great summer style. Take a ponytail of hair and divide it into two sections. From one section, take a small bit of hair from the outside and cross it over the middle of the two larger sections then join it with the second section. Repeat with a piece of hair from the second section, moving it over the divide to join the first. Repeat this weave until you run out of hair, then secure the braid with a ponytail.
Whether you plan to keep it simple with a wear-it-down style, or if you want to jazz it up a bit by sweeping your hair back into a bun, a headband can take your hair from “undone” to “done up”. Skinny headbands can help to tame flyaways, though thicker ones give you a bit more room to sport your personality.
Katniss Everdeen isn’t the only one sporting a boho side braid. It’s a great way to keep your hair out of your face stylishly this summer. Sweep your hair over to one shoulder and begin braiding at your neck. Continue until you run out of hair then secure braid with a hair tie. Gently grasp the strands of the braid and pull outward for added volume and a more lived-in look.
